| Title: | In the sewers of Lvov |
| Speaker: | A Documentary Film |
| Background and information: | Some of you may know Henry Margulies, a London kosher caterer. From May 1943 until liberation in July 1944, a group of Jews, including Margulies’ parents, spent fourteen months in hiding in the city's sewer system. Twenty people, including two children and a pregnant woman, descended into the ledges, caverns, and underground rivers of the catacombs beneath the city streets. The film tells their story. In 1939, Lvov was the third largest Jewish community in pre-war Poland with some 110,000 Jews. Fewer than a thousand survived. |
