Shabbat
Our Shabbat service starts at 9.00 am. While it is always our aim to respect the dignity and sanctity of shul proceedings, we find that a degree of informality helps to ensure a welcoming atmosphere that puts visitors at their ease. We aspire to a ruach that reaches everyone, be they regular or not-so-regular shul-goers.
A concurrent feature of the main service is Bernie Dexter’s Children’s service – a 21-year old institution much admired by all who have sampled its delights over the years. Follow the link to Uncle Bernie for detailed coverage.
We also host a monthly Sephardi minyan which starts at 9:30 am, and takes place in the Gertrude Preston Hall. The organisers want you to know that you don't have to be a Sephardi to attend and that their kiddush offers burekas as an alternative to fish balls!
Timing for Shabbat in the summer. We bring in Shabbat at a regular time, 7:36 pm, for the entire summer, because this is consistent with a mincha/maariv service that starts at 7:15 pm. There are five weeks in the middle of the summer, however, when the earliest possible time to bring in Shabbat is a little later than this, so for those weeks, the community shabbat candlelighting time is moved to 7:42pm, but the service time remains the same, at 7:15pm. Keep checking the service schedule for details.
Shabbat afternoon services commence about 75 minutes before the end of Shabbat and include a Seuda Shlishit, accompanied by a d'var Torah given by Rabbi Jesner or a visiting Rav or Dayan.
Weekdays
Daily morning and afternoon/evening services are held throughout the year, with Sunday afternoon service starting at the same time as the immediately preceding Friday’s Mincha.
